Captain Perry, who moved to Jefferson from New Hampshire, was one of the first settlers. He owned a shipping business on Big Cypress Bayou and helped grow Jefferson as a port by dredging a turning basin in the bayou. He was most famous locally as the owner of the Excelsior Hotel.
The house was moved to this location in 1957, and made part of a funeral home.
